from the east bay. a basically shot and killed near a middle school in berkeley. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is at the police station now where officials are expected to release some more information on that victim shortly. cate. >> reporter: that's exactly what we're hoping for, to get some more solid details because now we're getting conflicting information on the victim, whether the victim was a woman and man. we are staged outside the berkeley police department. we are hearing the public information officer should be here in the next 15 minutes or so. hopefully he can clear up the details. but what we do know is the crime scene is clear and police have wrapped up gathering evidence but we have video from earlier. the call came in around 11:30 last night. officers found this cyclist by longfellow middle school just off derby street. it appears the cyclist had fallen off the bike along the sidewalk. officers say the victim had at least one gunshot wound and is pronounced dead on scene. we don't know the identity, the age or the gender officially of

the victim. also, back out live here at the police department, officers have not released a suspect description and they are still investigating a motive in the shooting. but we are hoping in the next 15 minutes or 30 minutes or so we can get more concrete details for you. reporting live in berkeley, cate caugiran, cbs 5. four people are in the hospital this morning following an overnight shooting near lake merritt in oakland. officers found a 50-year-old man shot outside a liquor store on east 18th street just before 10:30 last night. they found three more victims just a few blocks away. one person is in critical condition. three others in serious condition. san francisco police are trying to figure out who shot and killed a man in his 20s last night. officers found the man just before 8:00 near grove and buchanan streets. the man had been shot in the stomach and the leg. he died at the hospital an hour later. the new storm hitting the bay area this morning has some people preparing for more

possible flooding. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is in larkspur, one of the spots where 101 can see a lot of water build up. anne. >> reporter: i'm here at lucky drive near larkspur right off of highway 101. now, normally when it rains, we see a lot of flooding in the road here behind me. we don't see much right now. so that's the good news. the rain is coming down but is not coming down very hard. in fact, i'm hoping one of the vehicles here is going to drive through so you can see the big splash. but it's only the right-most lane that has the water pooling in it right now. there we go! we knew we would get a splash here on live television. want to show you the video we shot about an hour ago. this was in mill valley hardware store. they had sandbagged their property in case of flooding. there's no flood warning, advisories, or watches out right now. so scenes like this might be considered overkill but, hey, better safe than sorry. there are power outages in the

san rafael area, almost 1,000 people without power right now and pg&e is working to restore that. so as far as weather drama, nothing like we saw last week. back out here live now, you're looking at highway 101. it's the chance of hydroplaning, of course, in some areas because you have that water pooling on the roadways. so take it slow. but no trouble to report. live in the north bay, anne makovec, cbs 5. and let's check in with lawrence, i believe, with more on what we can expect for the rest of the day. >> anne, i this that's the big concern. it's going to be the commute. it's going to be roadway puddling but no flooding from the storm system that's moving through. still, we're going to get hit hard here very shortly. you can see some of that rain make its way onshore right now. that big batch of yellow and orange will be pushing onshore with moderate to heavy rainfall. and so far, the focus has been really toward the central bay stretching from daly city, san francisco, through oakland and walnut creek. we are seeing good rain coming down here. but otherwise, it has been fairly quiet. that's about to change. expect rain spreading

throughout the bay area throughout the morning hours and then i think by the afternoon this cold front going to sag through and slide eastward and then looks like the skies will part a little bit maybe a couple of leftover showers and then we dry out. temperatures because of the subtropical moisture will be mild. 50s at the coast, mid-60s in the warmest spots inland. but this is likely it. i think this will be the last storm we see in quite some time. after this we start to dry out. this morning, very wet, making it very treacherous on the roads, gianna. >> it sure is. it is a very busy day for us in the traffic center. we are trying to get an update about 101 at silver, a traffic alert, accident blocking lanes. no word if it's out of lanes. so that traffic alert is still in effect. slow on 101. reports of a new accident north 101 near hospital curve involving five vehicles blocking lanes. this accident reported about 10 minutes ago northbound 280 at alemany also blocking the road. expect delays there. rest bound 24 we had an earlier

trouble spot. we are seeing slightly slow conditions there. eastbound, as well. there are reports of an accident at the caldecott tunnel on the eastbound side block at least one bore. it's been a busy ride through the area anyway this morning. also slow as you go in and out of the maze toward the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see the eastshore freeway stacked up as well all the way from highway 4. couple of accidents causing delays. one at university on the westbound side, eastbound at gilman. those should be over to the right shoulder at this point. north 17 at scotts valley road, this accident blocking lanes. heavy delays as you work your way on that northbound side through the santa cruz mountains. 880 as well southbound at you work your way near jackson we have reports of flooding in all lanes so that's a very slow and go right through there. northbound not seeing any delays. we are getting reports of delays on 101 and san jose. first reports of an accident as well at mckee, that's blocking lanes so busy ride out there. >> thank you. traffic is moving through devil's slide again this morning. crews did emergency work yesterday to shore up the road

along the san mateo coast because of erosion caused by last week's storms. a new tunnel is set to open next year and caltrans hopes that will mean an end to road closures in the area. in santa cruz county, officials hope to have one lane of vine hill road open today. the road off highway 17 in scotts valley was washed out in that weekend storm. a whole section of hillside disappeared in the storm take be the roadway with it. and remember, you can track this storm anytime with our live high-def doppler radar. that's on our website, cbssf.com/weather. it is 6:07 now. work will resume at the nation's largest port complex after a nine-day strike. negotiators finally reached an agreement to end the strike late last night. the details have not been released. and it still needs to be ratified by the union. workers were frustrated about employers outsourcing jobs. the strike shut down 10 of the 14 cargo container terminals at the nation's busiest seaport

complex in l.a. >> want to get cargo moved throughout this supply chain and the country and get everybody those christmas presents that they are looking for in those stores. >> clerical workers who have been without a contract for two years walked out on the job more than two weeks ago and thousands of longshoremen refused to cross that picket line. the man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old at risk girl is expected to make his first court appearance today. 36-year-old gary atkinson faces multiple charges including kidnapping and rape. the victim is a 16-year-old girl with autism who functions as a 7-year-old. >> this is by far one of the most sickening cases i have seen in my career as a police officer, that someone as mr. atkinson can take advantage of someone of this stature. >> the girl walked away from a group home on coolidge avenue in oakland a week ago. police say atkinson met her near the fruitvale bart station and formed her to his home in

san francisco where the assault took place. she was found on a muni bus two days later. they held him captive, threatened to kill him and made him do home repairs. that's the story for a handyman who police say walked into an ambush in morgan hill and got himself out of the mess at a san jose gas station. 509-year-old handyman was called -- the 50-year-old handyman was called monday morning for work at a mansion in morgan hill. for six hours a man and woman allegedly attacked him and forced him to work. >> the victim was terrified and shaken up. he told investigators that he was just trying to do as he was told waiting for the opportunity where he could escape. >> that opportunity came when the suspect stopped for gas in san jose while take be the victim to do some more repairs. he called police and they caught the suspects. they are due in court tomorrow. 6:09. san francisco police hope a new online tool will help them

track down suspectings in some of their cold cases. the feature called the line-up shows surveillance video from cold cases including this violent robbery on san francisco's polk street. the line-up also includes descriptions of the crimes and the suspects and ways to contact police to offer up tips. >> that the public can basically reach out to us through social media and helping us identify who this suspect is. >> police got the idea after a san francisco giants fan smashed a bus following the world series. this widely circulated photo of vandalism finally led to an arrest. contra costa county's board of supervisors has delayed a vote on whether to close four fire stations. if approved, stations in walnut creek, clayton, martinez and lafayette would close january 1. the county's top fire official recommended the closures, saying a loss of property taxes and a failed tax measure in november caused the district to burn through its

side, as well. chp on scene there. we'll get more details but 101 slow as you work your way in both directions. north 280 at alemany accident on the right shoulder so 280 may be a good alternate to avoid delays on 101. a couple of trouble spots on 24, westbound stalled vehicle, eastbound accident still wrapping up slow anyway through there. off the eastshore freeway, backed up beyond highway 4. you're going to see brake lights towards the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights are on by the way at the bay bridge. south 880 still seeing some slow conditions. the good news though at jackson all that flooding is on the off- ramp there so not affecting the main lines. that's a look at traffic. it's busy. >> i know. probably only going to get busier as we are seeing rainfall just making its way onshore. we have heavy rain in spots. berkeley the rain really coming down. they are still seeing rain out there right now. we are going to see moderate to heavy rainfall as the cold front pulls through town. let's check the high-def

doppler radar. not expecting any major flooding from this rain. but boy, it's going to be a good soaker making a mess of the commute early on. you can see that heavy batch of moisture along the coastline and the peninsula and some of that sliding in toward the east bay, as well. you have that strong line right through san leandro, san francisco and daly city. some moderate to heavy amounts of rainfall. so if you are traveling this morning on the roads, watch out. likely to see some puddles and dangerous driving conditions buy think things begin to settle down toward the afternoon. we start out with some morning rain then by the afternoon skies becoming partly cloudy. maybe leftover showers. dry weather will return and stick around for the foreseeable future. one last storm to go. sliding through the bay area right now. i think we get through with it this morning, and then things dry out. if are traveling around the state you will see showers into the central valley. rain at lake level and snow in the higher elevations about 6500 to 7,000 feet. winter weather advisory expecting up to 8" of snow up there.

they are looking into robbery as a factor. now, if you want to take a look, we have video from the scene earlier. this is shot a few hours ago. berkeley police say they got a call about a fallen cyclist around 11:30 last night. the cyclist was found near longfellow middle school off derby street. and when police got to the scene they found that the victim had at least one gunshot wound. then officers say she was pronounced dead on scene. now, berkeley police tell us the area where she was shot is a relatively safe area and the city typically has a low crime rate. we want to make note that this is berkeley's fourth homicide of the year. again, just going back to the case that woman the victim we don't know her identity but we know that she was in her 40s if not early 50s. and again the public information officer emailed me saying she just arrived here at the police station and hopefully when we get a chance to talk with her, we can get more details about the case. live in berkeley, cate

101. this is the lucky drive exit. this is usually where we see flooding here along 101. not so bad right now. i'm hoping a vehicle is going to come by so we can see one of the big splashes. this is about as bad as it's going to get right now. okay. the right lane, this is where you see the largest splashes. so really no trouble to report as far as the weather. and that's because the rain is coming down slowly enough this morning. better safe than sorry though according to a business owner in mill valley. we shot this video a couple of hours ago. this is at goodwin hardware. they are all sandbagged up prepared for the worst but right now there are no flood advisories, watches or warnings. just this steady rain that we have been seeing overnight. there are some power outages to report. san rafael about 1,000 pg&e customers are still without power. pg&e is working to restore that

right now. there's still a chance that some of the outages from power poles and trees falling down because the ground is so saturated from our last round of storms. but really, no drama to report. live along 101 in larkspur, anne makovec, cbs 5. let's check in with lawrence with more information on what we can expect for the rest of the day. when is this rain going to let up? >> i think by the afternoon, it will let up. but we would like to see the drama end. it's a messy commute. out the door, that rain is really coming down again. look at the yellows and even some oranges showing up along the central bay and also into the east bay along the peninsula as a strong band of storms moves onshore. heading out this morning, be careful. the rain is going to be coming down harped and puddles on the roads in through san francisco, south san francisco and along the peninsula into the east bay, as well. so good news is, we are not expecting any flooding at least major flooding from the storm system as it looks like it's going to push through this morning maybe one to two inches of rain in the wettest spots. cold front finally diving into

the bay area. that will bring some rainfall this morning. we are going to be on the back side of this by the afternoon. skies will part a little, going to see a little sunshine and a few clouds maybe an occasional shower. but things winding down, temperatures expected to be in the 60s but after that, looks like many dry days to come and that will be good, gianna. it's crazy out there now! >> it will be great news when the road dries out because it's been a busy day. head out if you are hitting the freeways this morning. we have a lot of accidents to report starting off on the eastshore freeway. westbound 80 at pinole valley road a big backup slow towards the bay bridge toll plaza. traffic sluggish heading into the maze. highway 24, 580, 980. in fact, we have a mobile unit out and about across the bay bridge now and you can see not too bad as you work your way on the lower deck of the bay bridge but metering lights are on and you're slow up the incline. we have a traffic alert at cesar chavez blocking lanes

more than 280 people are now confirmed dead after a powerful typhoon hit the southern philippines. and there's concern more bodies will be found as rescuers make their way to areas isolated by landslides, floods and downed communications. in compostela valley a flash flood killed dozens as it swamped two emergency storm shelters and military camp. new proof of just how powerful our recent storms were. this is the scene on 101 monday about 30 miles north of ukiah. the mud slide snapped trees like twigs as the saturated ground gave way and even uprooted a redwood. >> amazing. those roots are deep. that truck is lucky. i was just looking at the doppler radar. i'm not a meteorologist. but when it turns yellow i don't think that's good. >> no. especially when you're driving to work in the morning. [ laughter ] >> it's probably not what you want to see. it's going to be a messy commute this morning. over an inch of rain in the

north bay mountains but otherwise the rain coming down heavy this morning into san francisco sliding in along the peninsula and the east bay. let's get you in for a closer look there. and you can see that heavy rainfall now falling into san francisco down into san mateo. hayward san ramon. there is a storm moving through this morning but he think we'll catch a break toward the afternoon. so as we head throughout the day, starting out with rain early on today. by the afternoon the skies begin to part a little bit. and it looks like other than a wandering shower i think the rain will start to come to an end. and then the dry pattern returns to the bay area, then a dry pattern maybe through christmas. one storm pushing through the bay area bringing rainfall early on this morning. behind that looks like high pressure going to start to build in and then i think the main concern will be some patchy fog in the night and morning hours. around the state if you are traveling it is going to be a wet day. some showers into fresno, high country looking at rain down lake level at lake tahoe and in the higher elevations about

6500 to 7,000 feet, winter weather advisories are in effect. expecting four to eight inches of new snow there. that advisory in effect until 10:00 this morning. here's your cold front sliding through the bay area right now. it will bring with it more rain through the middle of the day. most of that will focus a little further to the south. and then in the afternoon, that sweeps on by our skies should part and then we'll dry out. toward thursday and friday. much nicer weather is on the way. temperatures expected to be in the 50s and 60s. next couple of days return to some dry weather on thursday and friday. and right through the weekend the temperatures are going to stay cool but still it will be dry through the weekend and probably monday and tuesday too. but right now it is wild out there on the roads! >> it is wet and wild for sure. we have lots of accidents out there. let's start off with a trouble spot this morning as you work your way along 280. this is just reported moments ago northbound near serramonte. we have reports of an overturned vehicle stuck in lanes. also a spinout reported in that same area. so traffic starting to back up

through this south 280 slow anyway as you work your way out of san francisco towards daly city. couple of trouble spots on 101. the sig alert we had along cesar chavez or 101 along cesar chavez so traffic is clear. but it's slow because of the wet weather. reports of flooding at paul as well so that may slow you down. south bay northbound 101 at 680 accident stuck in languages. that earlier wreck at mckee is cleared but the damage is done. brake lights on 101 through most of san jose. milpitas also same story westbound 237 slow between 880 an 101. 101, 280, guadalupe parkway, showing significant delays. mass transit very good choice this morning, bart, ace, muni, caltrain and your ferries all on time. let's check the live look at cameras. here's a look at the san mateo bridge. so far holding steady, no major delays to report. that's a look at your drive. back to you. >> thank you. citigroup just announced it's cutting thousands of jobs.

here now to talk about that and all your business news is jason brooks with kcbs and cbsmoneywatch.com. good morning. >> good morning. >> reporter: tough news coming from the banking sector. citigroup saying it will cut 11,000 jobs and close a number of branches in order to save costs. it will take a $1 billion charge in the current quarter because of that but says it will start saving about $1 billion a year beginning next year. citigroup has more than a quarter million employees around the world. also getting other news on the overall job market from the private sector coming from private payroll tracker adp. they say there was a gain of 118,000 jobs in november. significantly lower than what it saw in october but that was because of superstorm sandy, which it says effectively took 86,000 jobs out of the picture. the labor department reports overall job growth this friday. it says in october there was a gain of 171,000 jobs with the unemployment rate at 7.9%. netflix big news yesterday

someone shot and killed woman who was on a late night bike ride in the east bay. berkeley p look at fades top stories, -- at today's top stories, someone shot and killed a woman on a night bike ride in the east bay. berkeley police are investigating whether this was part of a robbery attempt. officers found the bicyclist near longfellow middle school after 11:30 last night. oakland police have no suspects or motive in a shooting that sent four people to the hospital. a 50-year-old man was found

shot to death on east 18th street and three more victims a few blocks away. rain is making a mess of bay area roads. highway 101 at lucky drive in larkspur is one spot that often gets flooded. there's some water on the road there but not too bad. we checked in with pg&e this morning too. it says 75 customers are without power in the bay area. here we go again. >> i mean, it's dumping out there now in parts of the bay area but it doesn't look like it's going to be like it was. but still plenty of rain if you are heading out on the roads you have some very strong storms making their way into san francisco. take extra care. the rain is coming down hard. we'll see puddling on the roads. things settle down this afternoon temperatures in the 50s and 60s and that's it for the rain. after today looks likes dry weather returns on thursday and friday. the worst will be the tule fog ground fog in the late night
